There are few, if any trainers who are more adept at placing horses than the remarkable Sir Mark Prescott, and the knight of the realm's team has hit an incredibly hot streak during the last week.

At the time of writing Prescott has sent out an astonishing 10 winners from his last 14 runners, that's a current strike rate of over 70%! The Newmarket-based handler's string had been ticking over very quietly until bursting into life a week ago, following a pattern established over many years that sees Prescott barely on the radar before taking off 'big time' as the season moves into the summer period.

As a racing tips journalist and being something of a student of form, this might seem an alarming thing to say, but it is not unreasonable to bet blind on Prescott's runners for as long as his hot streak continues. Many of his horses will run two or even three races a week to avoid the grasp of the handicapper and make hay for as long as they can - and as a punter, so should you.

Prescott's method is based on getting his horses a 'fair' handicap with three qualifying runs. He invariably runs middle distance bred horses over six or seven furlongs to get their mark, before stepping them up considerably in trip which then allows them to realise the potential they were bred for. There is nothing illegal or 'skullduggerous' about this tactic - it's all above board - but it shows a long-term strategic planning that is the envy of many less patient and skilled trainers.

Amongst recently noted Prescott winners who could easily run up a sequence of handicap wins are Bona Fortuna, Aestival and Speed Dating, but there are doubtless a stack more waiting in the wings for the right opportunities.
